Weekly Check-In Vlog – Hoping 2013 is Better Than 2012

Well I recorded this on the 28th and then forgot to create a post to put it in! I got my new computer and while the touch pad works much better on this one than the Toshiba, the web camera on this one is worse than the other. It’s a Gateway. Why is it SO dang difficult for companies to make a computer that works?!

No time to go there so… moving on.

There’s not any mind-blowing information on the vlog, but check it out and I’ll include the text version below.

I’ve noticed from the comments on Tiffany’s blog that many people are having a great holiday relaxing and spending time with their families. But then Tiffany mentioned how many folks have written about the issues they’ve had this year. I understand that some years are worse than others and you just want to skip the holidays all together and just regroup for the next year in hopes that it will be better. Just remember that you have people, especially those in Tiffany’s community, who care.

I spent nearly 3 days cooking…homemade lasagna and chicken & matzoh ball soup from a recipe that an old Jewish friend had shown me how to cook. All of it turned out great and I’m not really a great cook to say the least.

I’ve been getting my outsource stuff together and thinking about what the best direction is going to be for me for 2013. I spent a lot of this year trying out different things to see what interest me and, while it’s made me feel unfocused, it’s been useful in learning what I do and don’t want to do.

I really appreciate things like Tiffany having posted her “to do” list as it comes together because those are the things I’m working on doing. With the limited time I have, it’s always good for me to have a list like that to keep me focused.

I put out a few shout-outs to some of you and I just don’t care much for the webcam and how it records at all. It’s a grainy square-looking recording that just distorts things while it records. Back to my smart phone for a bit maybe….hmmm.

Well, I hope you all have a Happy and safe New Year and, as I say in my vlog… If you have to choose between the two be more safe than happy!! I should have another vlog out here before we head back out. Our weekends are usually Monday/Tuesday so you guys will have me on a different schedule than the Sunday check-in.

Until then…

    1. Thanks Minna. You too!

I checked the lens. Since it’s new it wouldn’t have shocked me if I’d left the plastic thingy on it! LOL Nope, all clear. Went into the webcam settings and it’s set at the highest number. Played with the contrast and such a bit but it still doesn’t look as clear at the Toshiba was, but I haven’t recorded again yet. I’ll see.

  1. Hi Debi,

I am really glad we met through Tiff’s blog. I consider the friendships I’ve made through her community, very important! I intend to continue following ya’ll. 🙂 hehe

Lasagna.. mmm, I love that. Never heard of the mozza-ball soup. How do ya make it?

Had to laugh when you said you can’t cook worth a dang. 🙂

Now, let’s see if I can click that I’m NOT a spammer. hehe

    1. I am too Bonnie, and we’re just gonna be one big group of stalkers this year! 😉

The soup is easy and yet not. I’ve got the recipe but I’ll have to send it over when it’s not 4am (didn’t get to bed till 6am this morning as it was!). I’ll probably add it to my “creative cooking” lens too. Isn’t that ironic… ME, with a cooking lens… HA! But at least I know it’s a hereditary thing. My mom always said, “I never said I could cook. I just said I could keep us from starving.” LOL

Nite nite Miss Bonnie. Happy New Year!

  2. Just going through some of your past posts, Debi, and I LOVE your Mom’s comment re cooking ……. although I’m not too sure that I can even keep my family from starving. Does giving them cereal count? lol

Fortunately my hubby does the cooking. I’ve got the goal to improve my cooking skills – baking is fine, but (despite what my kids think) I don’t think you can live on chocolate cake and biscuits ……….

    1. LOL. Cereal most definitely counts! And TV dinners, pot pies and something called boil-in-bags. Not sure you can even find those nowadays (and I’m NOT shocked!). 🙂

I’m like you…I bake. Not stuff as fancy as making my own pie crust but cookies, some candies, banana nut & zucchini breads (forget about yeast breads though…have finally given up on EVER talking yeast into rising!) 🙂

And what do you mean you can live on chocolate cake?! Say it isn’t so!!!

  3. I’m afraid that in the last decade I’ve understood what middle age spread means :), so living on chocolate cake is just a dream now. I didn’t do too badly when I was younger, although chocolate does still rank highly up there in my diet 🙂

And yes, my specialities aren’t of the light and fluffy variety. Anything where I can throw all the ingredients into one bowl, mix and then bake are the best for me. None of this light and delicate treatment!!
