Squidoo Lens Challenge Update

I had planned to get this out yesterday but my health had other ideas. Nothing major as illness goes… I get bladder spasms more often than I care to deal with because of the constant movement on the truck. The doctor’s had me on meds for the past year or two to minimize how often it happens but occasionally it kicks my butt. πŸ™ In spite of tub soaks, nausea, and a ton of water and trips to the restroom yesterday, I managed to get 4 new lenses done (Squick style). I’ll post those here and then over at Britt’s Money Making Ideas blog once I’m done here. I’m also gonna include my stats for the lenses I published last week. What’s I’ve noticed is that not only are the new lenses moving up fairly fast, my existing lenses have been ranking higher as well. I’m planning to work on adding content to my Squid Pro Quo lenses so I can get them published this week too. That way I’ll be able to have some comparison stats soon.

So here we go. First, I set up these lenses using Britt Malka’s Squick Method.

On 12/30/2012, I published my first 5 lenses for Day 1

Foam Mattress Topper
Family Tree Photo Collage
Flower Hair Accessories
Pictures For Living Room
Wedding Photo Frames

On 12/31/2012, I published my next 5 lenses for Day 2

Bathroom Lighting Ideas
Travel Accessories for Men
Candle Wall Sconces
Waterproof Dog Beds

White Picture Frames

I took New Years off, but on 1/2/2013, I published my next 3 lenses

Family Tree Picture Frame
Baby Monitors with Camera
2013 Journal Challenge (this one Britt and I set up for the challenge so it has much more than simple Squick Modules)

We went back to work on the 4th, and I fell behind on the challenge. I had these sent to my outsource guy on the 3rd but didn’t get them published till yesterday.

So, on 1/6/2013, I published my next 2 lenses for Day 3 and 5 lenses for Day 4 and 2 for Day 5. I’ll get the other 3 for Day 5 done tonite.

Pink Luggage Sets
Pink Bra
Pink Dog Beds
Hot Pink Dresses
Black and White Prom Dresses
Pink Bridesmaid Dress
Purple Evening Dresses
Hot Pink Heels
Kitchen Light Fixtures

When I first published, most of the lenses started at above one or two million. As of the today, here are where my top lenses rank:

Squick Challenge Stats

As you can see, the 2013 Journal Challenge lens that I published on the 2nd is my number one lens.

But I want to mention something here. It’s moving up really fast on the ranking, and it’s NOT a Squick type lens. But I expect these to move up faster. The point of building lenses using the Squick layout isn’t that they’re high-quality, stay on top forever type of lenses. They’re strictly a fast way to find out which lenses to invest more time into.

I have 6 lenses within the 85,000 mark.

#1 – Full blown quality lens created for my 2013 Journaling Challenge

#3 – Squid Pro Quo lens design

#2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, & 13 – Squick lens design

#9 & 10 are ones that I outsourced in September of last year, obviously for Halloween, that have also stayed up higher. I’m guessing since they’re holiday specific that they will start moving down as the ones I’m promoting and add start moving up.

My other published lenses are all currently all between the 178,000 and 672,000.

What’s interesting too is that the 6th one (Easy Recipes That Save Money) is one I put together back when I first started with Squidoo back in 2009. It’s been really low in rankings for years, but that was ok with me because it’s a personal lens. What’s cool though is since I’ve been adding my new lenses in the past few weeks, it’s moved up in rank as well…Nice!

So far, I’m thoroughly impressed with what Squick has let me do. I’ve gotten to where it takes me about 15 minutes to put together a lens, not including my product search. I spend about an hour or so looking for products, put together a list of 10 or so, and then start doing the lenses.

Moving forward from here, I’ll keep adding new lenses throughout the week while adding content to my top lenses to see if I can move them higher.

In the meantime, I set up a spreadsheet with all my lenses so I can keep track of when they’re published and which social bookmarking site they’ve been added to. That way I can make sure I’m getting simple backlinks.

I’ll be sure to come back and report how they’re doing in another week. I’d love to hear if you have any lenses that you’ve been building with either program and how they’re performing as well!

Until then…

  1. What is your goal for ranking? I’m new to the Squidoo game and have no idea of what is good, bad & indifferent!

    1. Tamsin,

I’m fairly new where Squidoo is concerned as well. I’ve been a member since 2008 but just dabbled back then. Now that this is where my main focus is until it’s up and running, I’m learning a lot more.

I can give you some basic markers that I’m shooting for right now though. First one is above 85,000. That’s where the cutoff is for Squidoo’s profit-sharing pool. Meaning, that any of your lenses that you keep above that mark (I believe for a month), then they’ll earn you income from Squidoo. That’s in addition to any sales you make thru your lens. I’m shooting there initially with my Squick lenses, and those that make it there, I’m putting more work into so I can move them up further.

The next goal is above 10,000 because that’s the Tier 2 payout. And then, ideally, between 1-2,000… that’s the highest payout tier from Squidoo. You can check out more about this here: http://www.squidoo.com/Squidoo_Payday

      1. Well, that’s my big aha moment for today! I thought you only earned if people bought anything πŸ™‚ A lot of incentive to get the lenses moving now!! I see a big learning curve coming up.

        Thanks for the info, Debi.

  2. Interesting stats Debi! I’m definitely thinking about dipping my toe in the Squid pool this year. I just need to get my software finished and packed up first cos it is very jealous of me spending time on other things, haha πŸ™‚

Do you think your new lenses gain some natural traction just because you have an older and more established account?
