*I* Built My Business President Obama!

I built my business! You know, other than rants here and there I haven’t said much publicly about most of what this President has had to say. But the comment he made the other night was out of line. He is doing is usual crap that does nothing but continue to divide this country because that’s exactly what he WANTS to happen!

As for my business…

The first one I started offline in April, 1998. I worked my ass off to learn what I was doing and to make it profitable. And I got news for Obama….*I* did that with my son…

And no, I didn’t take what you said out of context. I’ve read the entire speech and you were out of line.

I will agree with you that there are a lot of hard-working Americans out there (of course many of them are still looking for jobs in spite of all your efforts). There are people who built roads and bridges, great teachers and government help.

So let’s see who all helped with what….

1. I do not come from an Entrepreneurial background. My dad worked for the electric company his entire life and my mom was a legal secretary for 38 years until her death.

2. Not a single teacher I met (even those I thought the world of and respected), EVER mentioned that I might want to consider starting my own business down the road rather than being an employee for someone else.

3. When I lost my job after having moved 2,000 miles away from all my family and friends, I went looking to see if there was something I could accomplish for myself. There was no government people, or employees, or teachers pointing me in any direction or making suggestions. There was simply a 12-year-old who was counting on me and other business owners who were willing to show me the way!

While building my business, I am the one who did the following. Not one person stopped by my house to see if they could lend a hand. My friends and family (and 97% of the people I spoke with daily) weren’t, and still aren’t, willing to do the things I was doing because it would mean giving up time at the mall, the movies, the cookouts, the pool parties, the time in front of the television, and every other fun thing I gave up in my life while I was building that business you say I didn’t build myself!

I’m the one who made the phone calls.

I’m the one who created the advertising.

My son and I are the ones who spent HOURS outside in 115 degrees walking from car to car in order to put flyers on them so we could expose people to my business.

I’m the one who paid for the flyers to be printed.

My son is the one who had to give up time with me while I built my business.

I’m the one who chose NOT to look for government financing or a bank loan.

I’m the one who skipped meals throughout the day because I was too busy to stop.

I’m the one who did my taxes, set up an LLC, and figured out how business accounting works so that I wouldn’t end up in jail.

I’m the one who got only 3-5 hours of sleep each day for over a year while I built.

I’m the one who nearly lost her house when changes were made to the original company I started with and then closed their doors.

I’m the one who sat up stressing every night about how I was going to pay the bills with my $8.00 an hour job while I started building my business from the ground up for the second time!

There are very few people in this country who are willing to do what it takes to build a business WHILE they work a job. That doesn’t mean they don’t work hard at their jobs.

But how DARE you imply that we as business owners didn’t do it on our own!!
